The position is within the Math+ project "Information Flow & Emergent Behaviour in Complex Networks“ .
Here, we intend to investigate how structural properties of complex networks influence information and opinion dynamics. Our goal is to gain a deeper understanding of phenomena such as the spread of misinformation or the formation of filter bubbles. For this, we rely on rigorous probabilistic methods to model and analyse the intrinsic complexities of these systems. This research direction requires advancements in modern probabilistic tools, including spatial random graphs, random walks, and Markov chains.
The position is hosted in the Leibniz Junior Research Group on “Probabilistic Methods for Dynamic Communication Networks” at WIAS and will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Benedikt Jahnel (WIAS & TU Braunschweig) and Dr. Lukas Lüchtrath (WIAS). It includes the possibility to pursue a doctorate.
We are looking for : candidates with a Master’s degree in mathematics or a closely related field and with a strong background in probability theory. Prior knowledge in spatial stochastic or discrete probabilistic structures is beneficial but not required.
